Vintage Original Painting Oil on Canvas Art Signed by Jeanne Laurence Alaskan Artist

Regular price $2,500.00
This vintage original and signed painting by Jeanne Laurence (1897 - 1980) is oil on canvas and depicts one of her favorite subjects, Mt. McKinley (now Denali). Her signature color palette for Alaskan scenery paintings are exhibited here. The deep lavender of the mountain range that rises into pinkish gray clouds and a muted blending of blue, gray, and lavender. The brown cabin at the foot of the mountain is surrounded by the dark green tree line behind it, chartreuse grass and is fronted by lake water in soothing turquoise.

The painting came to me in the frame, as shown. It is of plaster-covered wood that simulates clay brick at the edges of the frame and clay texturizing in the concave panels, with a double matt feature in gold painted wood. This technique sets the painting off perfectly to offer the viewer a sense of peace, silence, and comfort. This is an extraordinary find, and I hope you will enjoy it.

Photo #3 shows damage to the left side of the frame. In Photo #1 you can see two small defects in the frame. These are the only areas of damage I find. The painting shows no damage and is signed in the lower right hand corner.

The painting, itself, measures 8" x !0" with the interior matt measuring 1" and the larger frame measuring 17 1/2" x 15 1/4" x 1 1/2".

Jeanne Laurence (1887 - 1980)
Born in the Lorraine region of France, Jeanne Kunath emigrated to the United States in 1920 and married the famed Alaska artist Sydney Laurence in 1927 in Anchorage. She is perhaps most well-known for her series of paintings of Alaska wildflowers on black backgrounds, 300 of which are featured in her book "An Album of Alaska Wildflowers."
