Vintage Ideal Postal Scale Triner Scale Co. Tiger Stripe 1920s Celluloid Postage Rates Insert Black Metal U.S. Mail Post WWI Office Decor

Regular price $65.00
This vintage Ideal postal scale was made in the 1920s by the Triner Scale & MFG Co., Chicago, Illinois. The steel has what is commonly referred to as a tiger stripe finish. The metal was lightly copper plated and then oxidized or anodized leaving stripes of the copper showing through. As a 1920s scale, this one shows a 2 cent rate for local mail, which was instituted for a brief time, following WWI. The celluloid insert allowed the owner to change out postage rates, as they changed.

This one has not been changed, and contains the original insert, which measures up to two pounds. The chart is broken out into categories: OtherPoints; Local; Merchandise & Printed Matter, Catalogs, Books ~ ETC.; and Newspapers. The insert shows a small damp stain at the bottom left corner, which may be seen in photo #2.

This old scale is a fun piece of American history and a lesson in postage rates. It is in remarkably nice condition and works beautifully. I have used it for years for mailing small items, and while it is not electronically accurate, it's fairly close.

Measurements: 6 3/8" tall, 7" long, and, 4 1/4" wide.
