Rare American Mercury Paperback Books, Nine First Edition Softcover Books, H. L. Mencken, Lawrence Spivak Mercury Books, Collectible Books

Regular price $140.00
This is a very rare, vintage collection of nine American Mercury first edition paperback books from some of America's most famous and prolific writers of the time. Each is a First Mercury Edition, re-issued in softcover form in 1938 and 1939 by H.L. Mencken's The American Mercury magazine. Mencken, himself, resigned from Mercury in 1933, and editorship in 1938 and 1939 was in the hands of his colleague Paul A. Palmer, with Lawrence E. Spivak as Business Manager, a creative team which steered Mercury on to renewed success.

These are in collectible condition, with tanned pages, some edge wear, and a few tiny chips at edges. The volumes have some waving, and I have shown the most affected in photo #5. In illustrated wraps with Mercury's trademark motif, each bears the mark in different colors. 8 vo., plus publisher's ads at the back.
