Patsy Twins and Pan Cup / Vintage Child's Cup / Hand Painted / Collectible Cup
This Patsy Twins and Pan vintage child's cup is based on the 1920s children's book of the same name, penned by Bert Delevy and illustrated by Dorothy Bock. The cup's artist places the book character - the cupie-faced Twins and their dog, Pan - in a farm landscape setting, as they skip off toward their adventures. The scene is in pastel shades of mint green, sky blue, and lavender, the perfect backdrop for the bright yellow and red dresses, and Pan in black. Heavy gilt edges the top and covers the handle.
This collectible cup must have been a gift to a child at Christmas, as the bottom reads, "To Don Hewitt, from Uncle Dan & Aunt Marie, Dec. 25, 1931." Interestingly, the first American publication of the book was released in 1931, in the same year.
It is in lovely, vintage condition, which leads me to guess the cup was a special and valued gift. If little Don drank from it, it was on special occasions. As the photos show, the green portion shows light smudges, which I have not attempted to clean, and the gilt shows minor spots, also as shown. This is such a unique and unexpected find.
